Car Driving License Class B / *B17 = Accompanied Driving

Description: The “normal” driving license. The driving license for motor vehicles that meet the following requirements:

• do not belong to classes AM, A1, A2 and A
• are used to transport fewer than eight people (except the driver)
• have a permissible total mass of no more than 3,500 kg

You are allowed to carry a trailer with this car driving license class B if:

a) the permissible total mass of the trailer does not exceed 750 kg or
b) the permissible total mass of the combination does not exceed 3,500 kg.

Motor vehicles - excluding motor vehicles of categories AM, A1, A2 and A - with a maximum permissible mass of not more than 3500 kg and with no more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat (including with a trailer with a maximum permissible mass of not more than 750 kg or one heavy trailer, provided the permissible total mass of the combination does not exceed 3500 kg). In addition - only in Germany - three-wheeled motor vehicles (with an engine power of more than 15 kW, but only if the holder of the driving license is at least 21 years old).

Minimum age special regulations

Reduced minimum age to 17 years:

Car driving license class with key number B 197

Description: Under the following conditions, the new national key number B197 offers the possibility of being able to drive a manual car from April 1st, 21, even though the driving test was completed on an automatic vehicle:
 
• 10 driving lessons (lessons of 45 minutes each) on a shift car (the driving lessons may only take place after the basic practical training at the earliest). According to the driving instructor, the 10 driving lessons (lessons of 45 minutes each) can be longer if the student driver does not meet the requirements of shifting gears.
• A 15-minute test drive with a driving instructor in a manual vehicle (half of the test drive must be in urban and half out of town)
• Issuance of a corresponding certificate by the driving school
• Deletion of an existing automatic restriction by the driving license office (key number 197 instead of 78)
